Hey Turtle, I think the audio post is a really cool idea. It's true that you can put in emotions and personality into the voice which is very difficult to do with the written word. You can sometimes hear the underlying meaning of things in the voice. Hope to hear more audio posts
I agree that Jeremiah is quite the inspiration.
I suppose that, like you, I have a career that requires me to use my voice a lot. Having said that, I tend to revel in the written word. If I wanted to hear a voice all the time, I'd turn on a radio station that had lots of talking. As for blogs though... I like to read 'em!
I prefer the written word for the same reason I would rather read the book than see the movie. It's up to the writer to write something another will read and use own their imagination as they read. With the written word, you can go back and re-read a sentence if you need to, but with the audio you must begin at the beginning all over again.
I agree with Sarah, there seems to be enough ways to hear noise and to me my computer room is more like a library. A place with no sounds except my keyboard clicking away.
You are a pro. Very smooth. Do I now recall you saying that you had worked in radio?
No kidding - great voice. Aren't you a public speaker already???? Really you've got a great voice for that. On the other hand, mine is way too deep for anything online... I hate being fake so stuff like that just won't happen... Maybe that's why I think voices are so sexy..
;-) Anyhow - yeah there are a few blogs which just get those return visitors...
Yay! The Turtle speaks! That was a really cool post- and you're right about the way people write, that the personality might not be able to hear the way things really are meant to be. It's easy to write things down. Great post! :0)
Smiley - Thanks for that, and I'll be using some of what you posted about public speaking in an upcoming entry... not sure if it'll be a text or audio post though.
Sarah - Over at one of my other blogs I mentioned in the header that my Dad used to park me in the library at his school when I was 5 or 6. I didn't amuse myself with the books, instead I headed straight for the A/V room. You have a passion for text and isn't it wonderful that we now have this forum for sharing our ideas, opinions and passions - text, pictures and the spoken word.
Misty - This post WAS done in one take... but in three parts. There's the front piece, the description of Jeremiah's post and the tangent piece on print advertising and how it relates to uninspiring blogs. You'll notice I spooged a splice at the head of Jeremiah's description. When I listened to the end result, I cringed as it's far from "broadcast quality" and I actually have a list of all the things I would have been docked on had this been an assignment for school. But then I thought... hey, this is my blog and the MESSAGE is far more important than presenting a polished piece.
Patricia - You drew attention to something I was previously unaware of in MY office.

Susie - H'hmmm... not ignoring you... busy... cannot blog every day, but I'll be sure to rectify the absense of Turtley comments ;)
AC - Thanks for the ego boost! I took Radio Broadcasting at SAIT years ago, but decided against working in the industry for many reasons unrelated to the work itself. Mostly politics, work environment and... I hate to say it, but... money.
Expat - You make me blush! And what's this about your voice being too deep for the spoken word?? Remember, we sound far different to ourselves after having been recorded than we do to the general audience. Listening to a recording, we're not hearing ourselves "in our head" (much like placing your ear up to a seashell).
I'm sure if you did a post on photography it would be wonderful. You would however have to include some of those wonderful pictures you're so famous for!
1999 - I'm glad you enjoyed the post. It's something just a little different in this sea of words.

You're right there is a definite element lost when communicating only through writing... now onto video posts??

And, okay, I'm blushing now--turning maroon over here. Thanks for the props and, geez, if I known that I was baring my soul, I would have never tried that!
Seriously, though, I did it because since we're all sharing here, we might as well share not only our thoughts, but our voices, and whatever else we want to share to possibly further humanize this strange medium. I think an occasional audio post is, if nothing else, charming, refreshing, and it satisfies curiousity. I'll speak for myself when I say that I do really wonder what you all sound like, what it's like to hear you ramble and think out loud. I am a student of conversations, in that I'm, as I've written before, a serial eavesdropper, so, talk whenever you feel like it. This is a word-based outlet, I realize, but is also a creative and personal one, and, those things can be expressed in a zillion ways.

Great Audio Post. What a neat idea. I think that I like the idea of audio posts. Like you said, alot of a persons personality comes through in how they say things. Which isn't always the case with the text option. So. Bravo to you.
